Actor Will Smith has officially stepped away from the upcoming crime thriller 'Sugar Bandits,' an adaptation of the novel 'Devils In Exile' by Chuck Hogan. Due to scheduling conflicts, the Academy Award-winning actor can no longer commit to the role.

Deadline reported the news, noting that despite Smith's exit, he and his production company, Westbrook, remain involved as producers. The high-profile project is still slated to begin filming in the next few months.

'Sugar Bandits' follows a former Special Forces soldier who becomes part of an elite vigilante group aiming to tackle the drug epidemic in Boston. Filmmaker Stefano Sollima, known for 'Without Remorse' and 'Sicario: Day of the Soldado,' will direct the film. Smith's recent appearances include 'Emancipation' directed by Antoine Fuqua and 'Bad Boys: Ride or Die.'
