Sun TV Network Projects Substantial Revenue Boost from Cricket Franchise

Sun TV Network is forecasting a substantial rise in revenue contributions from its cricket franchise, SunRisers Hyderabad, bolstered by incremental gains from their movie distribution business, as per the broadcaster's latest annual report.
The Chennai-based company, known for its strong presence in the southern states, made inroads into the Hindi market with the launch of Sun Neo, a general entertainment channel. Additionally, it ventured into Bangla and Marathi languages and now operates 37 satellite channels across seven languages, including Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Malayalam.
Sun TV Network's cricket-related revenues more than doubled to Rs 659.03 crore in FY 2023-24 from Rs 276.01 crore the previous year. The company also reported a 24.13% increase in revenue from movie distribution and sale of rights, reaching Rs 313.46 crore. Promoter Kalanithi Maran holds a 75% stake in the debt-free entity, which saw a total income of Rs 4,630.19 crore for the year ended March 2024.
