In a significant diplomatic engagement, Indian High Commissioner Pranay Verma met the interim government's Home and Agriculture Adviser Lt Gen (Retd) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury on Monday. The meeting aimed at advancing security cooperation, with discussions focusing on border management, capacity building, and the safety of Indian nationals in Bangladesh.
Verma announced that Indian visa centers are issuing a limited number of visas for Bangladeshi nationals, primarily catering to emergency medical needs and students pursuing their studies abroad. The High Commission of India in Bangladesh highlighted this development in an official post on X, noting the importance of these visas for urgent situations.
Additionally, the meeting explored mutual interests in the agriculture sector. Potential collaborations between agricultural research institutions, mechanized farming exchanges, and post-harvest management were discussed. The adviser emphasized the need for joint efforts in flood warning and forecasting, a concern Verma assured would receive India's support through necessary data and information sharing.
