The ruling CPI(M) in Kerala announced on Saturday that actor-cum-MLA M Mukesh does not need to resign from his legislative post despite a rape case pending against him.
State secretary M V Govindan revealed this decision at a press conference following a state committee meeting. Govindan clarified that Mukesh would be removed from the film-making policy committee due to the allegations.
Protests erupted across the state, led by Congress and BJP factions demanding Mukesh's resignation. An FIR was filed against him based on a woman's accusation of sexual assault years prior. Broader allegations of harassment in the film industry have prompted the state government to form a special investigation team.
