In a high-profile case that captivated Thailand and Spain, Daniel Sancho Bronchalo, son of Spanish actor Rodolfo Sancho, was sentenced to life imprisonment on Thursday for the brutal murder and dismemberment of Colombian plastic surgeon Edwin Arrieta Arteaga.
A court on Samui island found 30-year-old Sancho guilty of premeditated murder. Despite his insistence that Arteaga's killing was a case of self-defense, Sancho admitted to concealing the body parts around Koh Phangan island.
The court initially sentenced Sancho to death but reduced this to life imprisonment, acknowledging his account during cross-examination. He has been ordered to pay 4.42 million baht ($130,230) in compensation to Arteaga's family.
