Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha announced on Monday that the Centre will dispatch a team to assess the damage inflicted by floods in the state.

According to officials, the devastating floods claimed 26 lives and affected 17 lakh people, of whom 1.37 lakh were rendered homeless. The central team will soon visit the flood-ravaged areas to evaluate the extent of damage.

During a Janmashtami event, CM Saha revealed that the Union Home Minister, Amit Shah, assured him of the visit. Financial support has also come from Madhya Pradesh CM Mohan Yadav and UP CM Yogi Adityanath, with contributions of Rs 20 crore and Rs 10 crore respectively, for restoration efforts.

Revenue Secretary Brijesh Pandey stated that district magistrates have been instructed to assess the flood damages locally. The floods have caused significant harm to roads, buildings, power lines, embankments, and farmlands, incurring an estimated loss of Rs 15,000 crore. Despite receding waters, about 70,000 people remain in 471 relief camps.
