'Girls Will Be Girls', the debut production from actor couple Richa Chadha and Ali Fazal, will bring down the curtain on the 15th edition of the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne on August 25.

Directed by Shuchi Talati, the coming-of-age film has earned accolades at several international festivals, including its screening under Cannes Écrans Juniors and its award-winning premiere at the Sundance Film Festival.

Set in a boarding school in a small Himalayan town, the film follows the journey of 16-year-old Mira, whose rebellious awakening is intertwined with her mother's unfulfilled coming-of-age experiences. The film stars Preeti Panagrahi and Kani Kusruti in the lead roles.

Supported by Pushing Button Studios, Fazal and Chadha expressed their excitement for the film's Australian premiere at IFFM. Fazal said, "We are incredibly honored that 'Girls Will Be Girls' has been chosen to close such a prestigious film festival. We are thrilled to share it with the Australian audience and are certain it will find love internationally."

Chadha added, "This film has been a labor of love and it's incredibly rewarding to see it resonate with audiences worldwide. We are grateful to IFFM for this honor."

Mitu Bhowmick Lange AM, IFFM festival director, noted, "The film truly speaks to the current times and is a testament to the coming-of-age genre. We are proud to present it in Australia during its official premiere."

The closing ceremony will feature attendance by Panigrahi, and the film's Indo-French collaboration includes Pushing Button Studios, Blink Digital, Crawling Angel Films, and Dolce Vita Films, with Jitin Gulati and Kesav Binoy Kiron also starring.
