A devastating fire at a pharmaceutical unit in Anakapalli district has claimed seven lives, as confirmed by District Collector Vijaya Krishnan. The blaze erupted at 2:15 pm on Wednesday at Escientia Advanced Sciences Pvt Ltd. Suspected to be electricity-related, the fire broke out during lunch, with fewer staff present due to the timing.
Thirty-three individuals sustained injuries and have been transported to various hospitals in Anakapalli and Atchutapuram. The Fire department has deployed six fire tenders to facilitate rescue operations, successfully saving 13 people trapped within the unit.
In response to the incident, Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu expressed his deep sorrow over the loss of lives and assured government support for the affected families. The factory, which commenced operations in April 2019, is situated within the Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructure Corporation's 40-acre SEZ in Atchutapuram.
