Manchester City's Phil Foden and Khadija Shaw have been named the men's and women's player of the year at the Professional Footballers' Association awards due to their stellar performances in the latest season of English soccer.
Foden, aged 24, significantly contributed to Man City's fourth consecutive Premier League title, tallying 19 goals and eight assists. Shaw, the Jamaican forward, topped the Women's Super League with 21 goals, although Manchester City lost the title to Chelsea on goal difference.
Foden and Shaw also clinched the same awards from the Football Writers' Association, which reflects the accolades by journalists. The PFA awards, in contrast, are determined by votes from professional players.
Further honors went to Chelsea's Cole Palmer who took the men's PFA young player of the year, while Manchester United's Grace Clinton won the women's prize for her loan performance at Tottenham. Palmer was instrumental in Chelsea's success, finishing second to Erling Haaland's 22 goals in the Premier League scoring charts and leading in assists with 11. Clinton impressed with four goals and four assists in 20 Women's Super League appearances.
