The West Bengal Health Department has introduced 'Rattierer Saathi — Helpers of the Night,' a new initiative aimed at improving safety for women working night shifts. The comprehensive guidelines will be implemented in medical colleges, hospitals, and hostels.
The measures include creating separate restrooms with toilets for women, deploying women volunteers on night shifts, and establishing safe zones with complete CCTV coverage. An emergency mobile app connected to local police stations will also be developed. Helpline numbers 100 and 112 will be extensively promoted, and regular security checks and breathalyzer tests will be conducted.
Institutions are advised to form Vishakha Committees to handle sexual harassment issues. Additionally, women are encouraged to work in pairs or teams during night shifts. Night police patrols, identity card displays, and workplace security staff will further ensure a safer working environment.
