Remembering Alain Delon: The French Cinematic Icon and His Controversial Legacy

French actor Alain Delon, who captured the hearts of millions during his postwar heyday, has passed away at age 88, according to French media reports. Delon had experienced poor health since a 2019 stroke, leading to his seclusion at his estate in Douchy, Val de Loire.

Famed for his striking blue eyes and debonair looks, Delon was often compared to Frank Sinatra, a parallel he despised. Unlike Sinatra, Delon was open about his connections to the underworld. In a 1970 New York Times interview, he confirmed his friendships with gangsters in Marseille.

Delon's career skyrocketed with Italian director Luchino Visconti's 'Rocco and His Brothers' and 'The Leopard'. Despite never achieving Hollywood stardom, he was beloved in France and Japan. His life, however, was marked by scandals, including the infamous 'Markovic Affair', and his outspoken views on controversial topics.
