Union Minister for Heavy Industries and Steel H D Kumaraswamy has strongly condemned the attack on a Ganesh idol procession in Mandya district, describing it as a clear failure of law and order in the state.

Kumaraswamy warned the Congress party of imminent 'bad days' if it continues with what he termed 'appeasement politics.' His statement came after violent clashes erupted between two groups during the Ganesh idol procession in Nagamangala town on Wednesday.

Expressing his views on social media platform 'X', the Lok Sabha MP from Mandya district criticized the local police for failing to prevent the violence. He alleged that miscreants from a particular community deliberately targeted peaceful devotees, throwing stones and explosives, and attacking police officers. He accused the state government of indulging in 'appeasement politics' for political gain and urged immediate action to restore peace.

The police confirmed that an argument between two groups led to the clashes, resulting in vandalism and arson. The situation is now under control, with additional police forces deployed and 46 arrests made. Prohibitory orders are in place till September 14 as a precautionary measure.
