In response to severe rainfall, Madhya Pradesh's Chief Minister Mohan Yadav convened an emergency meeting at the CM House in Bhopal on Thursday. Key officials, including divisional commissioners, the Inspector General of Police (IG), Commissioners of Police, District Collectors, and Superintendents of Police (SP), participated via video conferencing.

The state has experienced substantial rainfall over the past 24 hours, necessitating the opening of gates at several dams. Specifically, two gates of Kaliyasot Dam and one gate of Bhadbhada Dam were opened on Wednesday in Bhopal. The Bhadbhada Dam, located on Bada Talab, and the Kaliasot Dam, on the Kaliasot River—a tributary of the Betwa river—required these actions due to rising water levels.

Additionally, the gates of Tighra Dam, a freshwater reservoir near Gwalior, were also opened. The Meteorological Office has forecasted heavy rainfall with lightning in Morena, Gwalior, Sheopur Kalan, Shivpuri, Bhind, and Ashoknagar districts during the forenoon hours.

Moderate precipitation with lightning is expected to persist in Datia, Niwari, Tikamgarh, Guna, Vidisha, Raisen, Sagar, Damoh, Chhatarpur, and Panna districts. Light rain with lightning is projected for Bhopal, Rajgarh, Shajapur, Agar Malwa, Sehore, Narmadapuram, Harda, Khandwa, Khargone, Burhanpur, Barwani, Dhar, Indore, Dewas, Ujjain, Ratlam, Mandsaur, Neemuch, Chhindwara, Pandhurna, Betul, Seoni, Jabalpur, Narsinghpur, Mandla, Dindori, Shahdol, Anuppur, Katni, Umaria, Satna, Maihar, Rewa, Mauganj, and Sidhi districts.

Earlier, the Regional Meteorological Office issued a red alert for Bhind, Shivpuri, Ashoknagar, Vidisha, Raisen, and Sagar, noting potential rainfall exceeding 204.5mm. An orange alert was announced for Morena, Sheopur, Gwalior, Datia, Guna, Niwari, Tikamgarh, Chhatarpur, Damoh, and Panna districts, predicting rainfall between 115.6 mm and 204.4 mm. A yellow alert covers the remaining districts in the state.
