Defence Minister Rajnath Singh inaugurated the state-of-the-art Indian Coast Guard's Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) building in Chennai. The new MRCC aims to improve the coordination and effectiveness of maritime rescue operations, especially for mariners and fishermen in distress at sea.

Singh also attended a coin-release event commemorating the birth centenary of DMK patriarch M Karunanidhi. The event saw the participation of Karunanidhi's son, M K Stalin, the current chief minister of Tamil Nadu.

In addition to the MRCC, Singh inaugurated the Regional Marine Pollution Response Centre (RMPRC) and the Coast Guard Air Enclave (CGAE) in Puducherry. The RMPRC is a pioneering step in tackling marine pollution, focusing on incidents like oil and chemical spills. The CGAE will enhance maritime security through advanced aerial surveillance and response capabilities.
