Kerala Congress Urges Financial Aid for Landslide-Hit Wayanad

The Kerala Congress has called on the central government to provide financial assistance for the landslide-affected region of Wayanad. Leader of Opposition V D Satheesan urged immediate support based on a memorandum submitted by the state government, while also criticizing the economic management by the CPI (M)-led government in the state.

The Congress in Kerala has urged the Centre to announce financial assistance for landslide-hit Wayanad as outlined in the memorandum submitted by the state government. Speaking to reporters, Leader of Opposition in the State Assembly V D Satheesan expressed hope for swift central support.

'The prime minister mentioned that relief would be based on the submitted memorandum regarding the disaster. It's unclear if it was submitted yesterday,' Satheesan said.

He added that a detailed rehabilitation report should have been presented during the PM's visit. 'It is expected that the Centre will act based on the state's demands,' Satheesan noted.

Prime Minister Modi visited Wayanad on Saturday, promising full support from the central government for relief and rehabilitation. He described the disaster as 'nature displaying its furious form.' According to state figures, 229 people have died, and over 130 remain missing due to the landslides.

Criticizing the CPI (M)-led LDF government, Satheesan alleged an acute financial crunch in Kerala and opposed any potential tax hikes. He also accused the state government of failing to improve the financial situation.
