President Droupadi Murmu on Wednesday visited the Sri Siva Subramaniya Swami Temple in Nadi, the largest Hindu temple in the Pacific region.

Murmu is in Fiji from August 5-7 at the invitation of its President Wiliame Maivalili Katonivere. This is the first visit by an Indian head of state to the archipelago nation.

During her visit, President Murmu paid obeisance at the expansive Sri Siva Subramaniya Swami Temple, warmly welcomed by members of the Fijian Indian community.

''A special moment to celebrate the cultural connect between the two countries,'' noted the Ministry of External Affairs in a statement.

From Fiji, President Murmu will journey to New Zealand and Timor-Leste, promoting India's Act East Policy.

She received the Companion of the Order of Fiji, the nation's highest civilian honor, addressed the Fijian Parliament, and praised the Indian diaspora for their contributions to cultural preservation and bilateral ties.
