Chevron on Monday initiated the evacuation of all staff and the shutdown of oil and gas output at two U.S. Gulf of Mexico offshore production platforms.

Operations at the Anchor and Tahiti platforms have been halted, while activities at other offshore platforms and onshore facilities proceed as usual.

Earlier, Chevron had announced the evacuation of non-essential staff at the Big Foot and Jack/St. Malo platforms in anticipation of Tropical Storm Francine, which is expected to escalate to a category 1 hurricane with winds reaching at least 74 miles per hour by Tuesday.
