A new extension of the 96-year-old Patna Museum, featuring modern galleries, is set to be inaugurated on August 7. The 'Ganga' and 'Patali' galleries are expected to be opened by Bihar's Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, sources revealed.
One of the key exhibits, a 200-million-year-old fossilised tree trunk, will be moved from the old building to the new gallery. All old artefacts have been relocated to a modern storage facility in the northern wing of the new extension for conservation purposes.
The new galleries aim to provide an immersive experience about the ancient city of Pataliputra, with exhibits including architectural models, artefacts, and interactive displays. The Patna Museum, temporarily closed since June 1, 2020, for renovation, is also home to rare paintings, sculptures, and other artefacts.
