Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Saturday reiterated his government's unwavering commitment to maintaining law and order, cautioning that strict measures will be enacted against any police personnel found negligent in their duties. He stressed that the rule of law remains a top priority for the NDA government during a crucial review meeting of the home department.
The meeting, which comes amid opposition attacks on the government over alleged worsening law and order in the state, was significant. According to the Chief Minister's Office, Kumar reiterated, 'The government will not compromise on law and order; strict action will be taken against negligent police personnel.'
In his directives to police officials, Kumar called for enhanced night patrolling and urged senior officials to conduct regular inspections. He highlighted a notable decline in crimes related to land disputes and announced the creation of 229,139 new police posts to further bolster law enforcement. Currently, around 106,436 police personnel are serving in the state, with vacancies being actively filled. Additionally, Kumar noted that Bihar employs the highest number of women in the police force, thanks to a 35 percent reservation policy for women in state services. The opposition, however, criticized the meeting as a superficial exercise aimed at salvaging the government's image.
