Chhatrapati Shivaji was not merely a Maratha monarch but an emblem of 'Hindavi Swaraj', stated RSS general secretary Dattatreya Hosabale on Wednesday, stressing the importance of public awareness of Shivaji's contributions.

According to Hosabale, post-Independence efforts sought to distort Shivaji's history more than the British did, attempting to diminish his significance. Yet, Shivaji remained 'self-illuminating and inspiring'. Hosabale made these remarks at an event marking the 350th anniversary of Shivaji's coronation and the launch of four books discussing his life and achievements.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and former President Ram Nath Kovind also highlighted Shivaji's vision of Hindavi Swaraj, good governance, and economic self-reliance. Modi, in particular, referenced the importance of 'sushasan' (good governance) in contemporary times, inspired by Shivaji's legacy.
