Renowned fashion designer JJ Valaya showcased his latest collection 'Muraqqa' on Day 4 of India Couture Week 2024 in Delhi. In an exclusive conversation with ANI, Valaya explained the inspiration behind his collection and the significance of its title. He also discussed the burgeoning Indian fashion industry, which is attracting global attention for its rich culture and traditions.

Valaya's collection captures the essence of Isfahan, Istanbul, and Delhi, reconstructing their rich cultural heritages in a contemporary setting. The Istanbul theme featured Ottoman complexities and art deco lines, while the Isfahan theme reinterpreted Persian carpets and miniature paintings with a modern twist. The Delhi theme celebrated Mughal inlays blended with flora and fauna motifs.

"Muraqqa are the beautifully decorated albums from the past containing miniature paintings and poetry. This collection is very precious to me as it amalgamates three major influences in one place." Valaya's 60-piece collection this season showcases luxurious textiles, fine craftsmanship, and exquisite detailing across three distinct themes. It includes custom woven silks, lush velvets, and a range of silhouettes such as lehengas, saris, evening jackets, sherwanis, Nehru jackets, and bundhgala jackets.

Valaya has masterfully embraced luxury, timelessness, style, tradition, and individuality. The collection's vibrant reds and intricate embroidery make it ideal for weddings, while his experimentation with black and white adds an elegant simplicity.

Discussing the evolving trends in wedding outfits, Valaya shared, "I've been in this industry for 34 years and have witnessed significant changes. Brides and grooms now seek to match in style for their big day. It's important for designers to keep Indian traditions alive while connecting with the modern generation." India Couture Week 2024 concludes on July 31.
