Punjab Governor and Union Territory Chandigarh's Administrator Banwarilal Purohit laid the foundation stone of the 'Sant Namdev Ji Yatri Niwas' on Tuesday. The facility will honor the revered saint Bhagat Namdev.

The governor sanctioned a grant of Rs one crore from his discretionary fund to aid the construction of the building, which will feature 10 rooms, a hall, and a kitchen. The project aims to provide accommodations for devotees visiting the sacred site from across India, according to an official release.

Bhagat Namdev, a prominent figure who traveled extensively, spent 18 years of his life in the Ghoman village, where he attained enlightenment in 1350. Born in 1270 in Narsi Vamani, Maharashtra, Bhagat Namdev's legacy includes 61 hymns now part of the Guru Granth Sahib.
