The fourth and final season of the post-apocalyptic dystopian series was originally planned but Warner Bros. Discovery decided not to air it, and TNT canceled the project altogether. Nevertheless, Snowpiercer fans need not lose hope as Tomorrow Studios, the show's production company, is committed to finishing the story and is actively exploring alternative streaming platforms for the final season. Additionally, they have plans to expand Snowpiercer into a franchise, with potential prequel and sequel series in development.

Tomorrow Studios’ Marty Adelstein, CEO/Partner, and Becky Clements, President/Partner, said in a statement, "We love Snowpiercer and believe season four completes a story with incredible talent that will entertain viewers while exploring issues of climate change and class warfare. We are so passionate about this series that we have acquired the rights to control the franchise. "We hope to find the perfect partner shortly and finish a great ride with the final season." –"

TNT's decision to cancel the fourth and final season of Snowpiercer can be attributed to the merger of its parent company, Warner Bros., with Discovery. The new head of the merged entity, David Zaslav, was focused on cost-cutting measures to improve the company's bottom line, resulting in the cancellation of several scripted live-action and animated programs for tax write-offs. One such example was the shelving of the nearly finished Batgirl film. Zaslav also made significant changes to the animation department at HBO Max, laying off multiple employees and removing successful shows like Infinity Train from the platform.

Snowpiercer's final season could potentially air on WBD's HBO Max, Netflix, or traditional linear TV like AMC. Tomorrow, Studios will need to decide which platform is the best fit. These platforms are potential options for airing Snowpiercer's final season, as they have a track record of airing popular shows and can reach a wide audience. Additionally, HBO Max is owned by WBD, Netflix has revived canceled shows in the past, and traditional linear TV networks like AMC have a history of airing acclaimed dramas.

But, as What's On Netflix predicted, "It's looking unlikely that Netflix will be carrying season 4 of Snowpiercer internationally anytime soon." However, Netflix will remain the home to Snowpiercer seasons 1–3 for the foreseeable future, with most regions now having the rights to the series until March 29th, 2032.

Ultimately, Tomorrow Studios will need to determine the best platform based on a variety of factors. Snowpiercer was the final scripted series on TNT. The series was based on the 2013 movie of the same name, which was in turn based on a graphic novel.

The show follows Andre Layton (Daveed Diggs), who heads a group of "Tailies," or people who boarded the train illegally and lived at the tail end. The Tailies are held in check by those in authority, notably, Head of Hospitality Melanie Cavill (Jennifer Connelly), who works for the enigmatic Mr. Wilford (Sean Bean), the train's designer.

Layton leads the other Tailies in a rebellion against the Engine throughout the series, eventually taking power by the end of season one. Mr. Wilford's reappearance in the second season presents Layton with a leadership challenge, with Wilford eventually regaining power. By season three, Layton is back in charge, and he uses his clout to expel Wilford and lead the train to "New Eden," where they may be able to settle outside once more. The series was supposed to wrap up the Eternal Engine saga in season four. Unfortunately, the series was canceled.
