Teen's Deadly Rampage: Mother Warned School Before Tragedy

Marcee Gray, the mother of the teenager charged with fatally shooting two students and two teachers at a Georgia high school, called the school on Wednesday morning to warn a counselor about an 'extreme emergency,' according to a Washington Post report. Gray urged the counselor to locate her 14-year-old son, Colt Gray, immediately. Phone records provided by a relative indicate a 10-minute call to Apalachee High School at 9:50 a.m., approximately 30 minutes before the attack began.

Though Marcee Gray did not specify the details prompting her call, she conveyed her concerns to law enforcement and expressed her sorrow for the victims and their families. An administrator sought Colt Gray in his math class, the Post reported, but he was not present.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation, leading the investigation, directed questions to the Piedmont Judicial Circuit District Attorney's Office, which is prosecuting the case. The office did not respond immediately to comments. Colt Gray has been charged as an adult with four counts of murder, and his father, Colin Gray, faces charges of murder, involuntary manslaughter, and cruelty to children for allegedly providing the firearm. In May 2023, both were questioned about threats of a school shooting but were not linked to them. The case was subsequently closed.
