New charges have surfaced against Bangladesh's deposed Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, linking her and her former cabinet minister to fatalities during the recent quota reform protests.

The murder cases, filed with the Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court, add to the 89 cases pending against the 76-year-old leader following her resignation on August 5 amid widespread student protests against the quota system in government jobs.

The charges also implicate party general secretary Obaidul Quader and 339 others, in connection with the deaths of five individuals during the protests. Over 230 people have been killed in subsequent violence, raising the toll to over 600 since mid-July. Following Hasina's ouster, an interim government was installed with Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus as the Chief Adviser.
