Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has written to Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin concerning the state's non-signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the PM Schools for Rising India (PM SHRI) scheme.

The PM SHRI scheme is designed to upgrade 14,500 schools nationwide, benefiting approximately 1.8 million students. It also strives to create model institutions reflecting the National Education Policy (NEP), 2020.

Pradhan pointed out that after Tamil Nadu indicated its willingness to sign the MoU for the 2024-25 academic year, the Centre sent a draft MoU. However, Tamil Nadu's rephrased version excluded key references to NEP, 2020. Pradhan emphasized the importance of fully implementing NEP, 2020, under the PM SHRI scheme.
