BJP MP Hemant Sawra Calls for Inquiry into Food Poisoning Incident in Maharashtra's Ashram Schools

BJP MP Hemant Sawra asked for an investigation into a food poisoning incident affecting students in ashram schools in Palghar, Maharashtra. The incident led to 663 students falling ill. BJP MP Hemant Sawra demanded an investigation on Sunday into a recent food poisoning incident involving students of ashram schools in Maharashtra's Palghar district. Speaking to PTI, Palghar MP Sawra revealed he had met Union Minister for Tribal Affairs, Jual Oram, and submitted a memorandum seeking an inquiry.

Sawra's memorandum highlighted that 663 students from 33 ashram schools fell ill on August 5. The students—295 males and 368 females—were urgently attended to at nearby health centres and hospitals, and their condition is now stable.

The legislator is pushing for the Centre's intervention to prevent future incidents and has demanded an inquiry into the matter. During an International Tribal Day event on August 9, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde announced plans for surprise inspections of ashram schools to ensure proper fund utilization for tribal welfare.
