IIT Bombay Graduates Eye Industry and Tech Jobs Amidst Stressful Placement Season
IIT Bombay's graduating batch of 2024 predominantly aims for industry/core engineering and technology roles, as per a survey by Insight. The survey revealed students' preferences, their career paths, and factors influencing decisions, with many citing financial compensation and work-life balance as essential. Placement season was reportedly stressful for many.
The graduating class of 2024 from IIT Bombay is setting its sights predominantly on roles in industry/core engineering and technology. This revelation comes from a recent Senior Survey conducted by Insight, IIT B's official student media body. Out of 291 students surveyed, 67 expressed a preference for core engineering jobs, and 66 leaned towards careers in technology.
The survey highlighted the various career paths IIT B students are considering post-graduation. While many plan to follow traditional engineering and tech roles, 35 students are eyeing advanced studies like Masters or PhDs. Additionally, finance and venture capital/consulting roles attracted 21 respondents each, with a mere six students interested in entrepreneurship.
Mumbai and Bengaluru emerged as popular job destinations among graduates, with 65 choosing Mumbai and 55 opting for Bengaluru. Work culture, financial compensation, and work-life balance were critical factors in career decision-making. Despite these aspirations, the placement season was stressful for many, with 128 students reporting high stress and 140 encountering instances of unfairness or bias.
