Education Minister Urges Accountability After Tragic Deaths at UPSC Coaching Centre
Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan emphasized stricter adherence to rules by coaching institutes in light of the deaths of three UPSC aspirants due to flooding at a Delhi institute. He called for accountability and criticized political exploitation of the tragedy. He stressed cooperation between Centre and states in implementing safety regulations.

Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Monday emphasized that coaching institutes must adhere to rules and regulations, following the tragic deaths of three UPSC aspirants due to flooding at a coaching centre in Delhi. He stressed that such incidents should not be politicized and called for accountability.
Speaking in the Rajya Sabha, Pradhan described the incident as unfortunate and highlighted the need for fixing responsibility to prevent recurrences. He emphasized that education is a concurrent subject requiring cooperation between the Centre and states, and mentioned previous advisories sent to states on coaching centre regulations.
Pradhan indicated that had state governments followed these advisories, the tragedy could have been averted. He also addressed criticisms of the education system, dismissing them as pseudo-intellectualism. The victims, identified as Shreya Yadav, Tanya Soni, and Nevin Delvin, were preparing for the IAS examination.
