Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge on Sunday alleged that the BJP-RSS has undertaken efforts to 'destroy the education system' and questioned why the National Recruitment Agency (NRA) has not conducted a single exam in the past four years.
Kharge's remarks followed Prime Minister Narendra Modi's speech in Mumbai, where he claimed that the creation of eight crore new jobs in the last three to four years has 'silenced' unemployment critics.
In a post on X, Kharge said, 'Narendra Modi ji, yesterday you lied about providing jobs in Mumbai. I want to remind you what you said about the NRA - National Recruitment Agency.' He pointed out that despite announcing the NRA would simplify the recruitment process, it hasn't conducted any exams. He raised concerns about the allocation of over Rs 1,500 crore to the NRA, out of which only Rs 58 crore has been spent in four years, querying if the inactivity was deliberate to deprive certain youth of their reservation rights.
Kharge also alleged that the National Testing Agency (NTA) was involved in scams and scandals and pointed to irregularities in exams like NEET-UG. The ongoing issues, he claimed, reflect a broader agenda of compromising the educational framework and the future of youths. He added that while Congress had consistently raised these issues, the Modi government remained silent.
Echoing Kharge, Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh cited a media report that claimed the NRA hadn't conducted any exams yet, despite significant expenditure. Ramesh stated that the NRA, much like the NTA, has failed to deliver on its promises.
