The Maha Mumbai Metro Operations Corporation Limited (MMMOCL) has rolled out a groundbreaking WhatsApp-based ticketing service for metro lines 2A and 7, in a bid to offer an eco-friendly and efficient option for commuters. This initiative allows passengers to purchase tickets using WhatsApp, eliminating the need for paper tickets.
Metro lines 2A, which extends from Andheri West to Dahisar, and line 7, from Andheri East to Dahisar, were inaugurated in April 2022. The lines have since become vital in serving the densely populated north-west part of the city. Officials stated that this new ticketing service aims to streamline commuter journeys and enhance the travel experience.
Passengers can buy tickets by sending a 'Hi' to a designated WhatsApp number or scanning QR codes displayed at metro stations. The WhatsApp-based system, launched by a woman passenger during Navratri to symbolize empowerment, is anticipated to significantly boost digital ticketing usage. As per MMMOCL, over two lakh commuters utilize these metro lines daily.
