Ratan Tata, an influential figure in global industry, passed away at 86. Despite his extensive control over 30 companies in more than 100 countries, the industrialist avoided the conventional trappings of wealth, maintaining an unpretentious life.
Tata joined his family business in 1962 after studying architecture at Cornell University. He became chairman of Tata Industries in 1981, and a decade later, he succeeded his uncle, JRD Tata, as the chairman of Tata Group, leading it through major economic shifts in India and transforming it into a global power.
His tenure saw significant acquisitions, such as Tetley Tea, Corus Group, and Jaguar Land Rover. Alongside his business achievements, Tata was recognized for his philanthropy, supporting education and healthcare initiatives. Faced with controversies, including leaked phone call recordings, Tata maintained his integrity. Post-retirement, Tata invested in numerous start-ups, leaving an indelible mark on India's entrepreneurial landscape.
