In a significant move, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday distributed the first installment of Rs 75,000 to 25,238 entrepreneurs under the Mukhyamantrir Atmanirbhar Assam Abhiyan (CMAAA) at the Veterinary College Field, Guwahati. This initiative aims to empower the youth and foster self-reliance in Assam.

Under the scheme, entrepreneurs with general qualifications will receive Rs 2 lakh, comprising Rs 1 lakh as a grant and Rs 1 lakh as a loan. Meanwhile, those with professional qualifications in fields like engineering or medicine will receive Rs 5 lakh, split equally between a grant and a loan.

On Monday, 25,064 general-qualified entrepreneurs and 147 professionally-qualified entrepreneurs received the first installment. Beneficiaries span multiple sectors, including agriculture, aquaculture, poultry, and vocational businesses. The funds help these entrepreneurs take significant steps towards self-employment.

During the event, CM Sarma reiterated the government's commitment to fulfilling its election promises, including providing 1 lakh government jobs, with an additional 40,000 jobs also created. He emphasized transparency and eradication of corruption in recruitment processes, highlighting the successful completion of several recruitment drives.

CM Sarma also spoke about a new semiconductor manufacturing unit in Jagiroad, as part of the state's push for industrial development. He noted that entrepreneurs will have to repay only half of the received amount over five years, with the second installment to be given post-training completion in November.

The CM announced the launch of a portal for an additional 75,000 youths to apply for benefits under the scheme. He expressed hope that once 1 lakh youths transition to entrepreneurs, the next phase will extend benefits to another 1 lakh. He encouraged entrepreneurs to leverage the Prime Minister's Mudra Scheme and highlighted increased loan disbursements by state financial institutions.

CM Sarma urged youths to face adversities with resilience and aim to become employers themselves, contributing to a self-sufficient Assam. He stressed that entrepreneurship offers limitless opportunities for growth, in contrast to the stable but limiting scope of government jobs. (ANI)
