Mizoram Government Increases Fuel Prices by Rs 4 Per Litre for Infrastructure Development
The Mizoram government has decided to increase petrol and diesel prices by Rs 4 per litre from September 1. This hike includes a Rs 2 levy for social infrastructure and services cess, and another Rs 2 for road maintenance. Despite the increase, current fuel prices remain lower than in 2021.
The Mizoram government has announced a Rs 4 per litre hike in petrol and diesel prices starting September 1, according to Taxation Minister Dr. Vanlalthlana.
The hike includes a Rs 2 per litre levy for social infrastructure and services cess and an additional Rs 2 for road maintenance, effective immediately, the minister said. The decision aims to benefit and enhance the welfare of the people, fostering a sense of ownership among citizens for infrastructural projects, Vanlalthlana added.
Despite the recent increase, the minister noted that current fuel prices are still lower than they were in 2021. This move aligns with recommendations from the State Resource Mobilisation Committee to boost revenues. The current price of petrol in Aizawl now stands at Rs 99.24 per litre, while diesel costs Rs 88.02 per litre.
