Israeli Jets Strike Lebanon Amid Hezbollah Threats

Israeli jets launched strikes in Lebanon early Sunday after military assessments indicated that Hezbollah, backed by Iran, was preparing to fire rockets towards Israel. The Israel Defence Forces (IDF) confirmed the operation, stating that it was in response to imminent threats from the terrorist organization.

Flights in and out of Tel Aviv's Ben Gurion airport were suspended, and Israel's cabinet convened for an emergency meeting at 7 a.m. (0400 GMT), according to Israeli media.

The strikes occur amid heightened fears of escalation following a missile strike in the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights last month that killed 12 youngsters and the Israeli military's assassination of a senior Hezbollah commander in Beirut. The IDF has advised civilians in southern Lebanon to avoid areas where Hezbollah operates and promised new civil defense instructions soon.
