Mumbai Port on Friday launched several key projects and inked investment proposals worth Rs 4,000 crore, focusing on sustainability and green fuel.

The initiatives are expected to create 1.45 lakh person-days of employment, according to a statement from the port operator.

The Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) were signed in the presence of Union Minister for Ports, Shipping, and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal during his visit.

One significant MoU was signed between Mumbai Port Authority, Mumbai Port Sustainability Foundation (MPSF), and HPCL to develop a green fuel ecosystem. Another MoU involved collaboration between Det Norske Veritas (DNV) and MPSF on emission management, decarbonisation, digitisation, and safety in port operations.

Early in his visit, Sonowal virtually inaugurated several key projects, including testing operations for a newly constructed 3rd chemical berth at Pir Pau jetty.

Sonowal also inaugurated an automation system and programmable logic controller at the Marine Oil Terminal and MPSF, and laid the foundation for a shore protection and reclamation project at Jawahar Dweep.

Mumbai Port handed over land transfer documents for various leasing agreements, including leasing plots to Mahanagar Gas Nigam Ltd and Aegis Logistics, among others. Leases for the Mazagaon Dock Shipbuilders were also renewed during the visit.

The total investment of Rs 4,000 crore is expected to benefit Mumbai significantly, generating substantial employment opportunities.
