A tragic accident occurred on Friday when an Indian tourist bus travelling from Uttar Pradesh to Kathmandu veered off the highway and plunged 150 metres into the Marsyangdi River in Nepal, resulting in the deaths of 14 people and injuries to 16 others, authorities reported.
The bus, carrying a group of 43 Indian pilgrims on a 10-day tour of Nepal, was travelling from Pokhara to Kathmandu when it crashed in Tanahun district. The victims were part of a contingent of 104 pilgrims from Maharashtra, spread across three buses. Emergency response teams, including a helicopter from the Nepal Army, have been dispatched to the site for rescue operations.
Local authorities, including the Uttar Pradesh government, are actively involved in relief efforts. This incident highlights the dangers of travelling in Nepal's mountainous terrain, particularly during the monsoon season, which brings heavy rains and increased risks of landslides and swollen rivers.
