In a tragic turn of events, at least 14 people lost their lives and 16 others sustained injuries after an Indian tourist bus plunged into the fast-flowing Marsyangdi River in central Nepal on Friday. Authorities confirmed that the bus, carrying 43 people, was traveling from Gorakhpur to Kathmandu when the accident occurred in the Tanahun district.

The Embassy of India, in a post on X, stated that the bus fell 150 meters into the river. Rescue efforts are underway, with the local authorities, including the Deputy Superintendent of Police Shailendra Thapa and the Armed Police Force, retrieving 14 bodies and rushing the injured to local hospitals.

The Nepal Army has deployed an MI 17 helicopter with a medical team to assist in the relief operations. The rescue effort is complicated by heavy monsoon downpours, which have increased the river's flow and made it difficult to locate wreckage. The monsoon season often triggers landslides, exacerbating the risks of traveling in the mountainous areas of Nepal. Last month, a similar incident resulted in several casualties when two buses were washed away by a landslide.
