At least 14 people were killed after an Indian-registered passenger bus plunged into the Marsyangdi River in central Nepal on Friday, according to media reports.

The bus from Gorakhpur was heading toward the capital Kathmandu from the resort town of Pokhara when it drove off the highway in Aaina Pahara, Tanahun district.

At least 29 passengers have been rescued from the bus, which bore the number plate UP 53 FT 7623. An official from the District Police Office, Tanahu, confirmed 14 deaths so far. Rescue operations are being conducted by a 45-member team of the Armed Police Force, headed by SSP Madhav Paudel.

The accident occurred around 11:30 am on Friday. Last month, two buses were swept into the swollen Trishuli River by a landslide, highlighting the ongoing transportation challenges during the monsoon season. Heavy rains have turned Nepal's waterways murky, complicating rescue efforts.
