Tragic Bus Accident in Ladakh: 7 Dead, 20 Injured

Seven people lost their lives and 20 others sustained injuries when a bus skidded off the road and plunged into a 200-feet-deep gorge in Leh district, Ladakh, on Thursday. The bus was transporting school staff to a wedding ceremony, according to Leh Deputy Commissioner Santosh Sukhadeve.
The Indian Army, in a swift response, provided crucial assistance following the tragic accident at around 11 AM in the Durbuk area. A statement by the Army confirmed the bus was carrying 27 passengers, and the accident left three children and 17 women among the injured.
Immediately after the accident, Army personnel in the vicinity rushed to the scene and initiated the evacuation, transporting all 27 casualties to nearby medical facilities. The wounded were first taken to the Military Hospital and Primary Health Centre at Tangste for urgent care. Advanced Light helicopters conducted 14 sorties to airlift the injured to the main Military Hospital in Leh. Subsequently, 20 of the injured were transferred to Sonam Norbu Memorial Hospital in Leh for further treatment, while one casualty with a spinal injury remained at the Military Hospital for continued care.
