Amazon India Sees Surge in Odisha: Sporting Goods & EVs Lead the Way
Amazon India has seen significant growth in Odisha's home, kitchen, and outdoors segment in the 2023-24 fiscal. The company has also reported a rise in demand for sports equipment and electric vehicles. With an increasing customer base and strong local partnerships, Amazon aims to meet the evolving needs of consumers in the state.
Amazon India has reported an impressive 25 per cent growth in its home, kitchen, and outdoors segment within Odisha for the 2023-24 fiscal year compared to the prior year. The company also noted a robust 15 per cent increase in new customers in the rapidly expanding state, according to K N Srikanth, Director of the Home, Kitchen and Outdoors segment at Amazon India.
The region is showcasing a heightened interest in sports equipment, with cricket gear sales soaring over 80 per cent year-on-year. Equipment for racquet sports, such as badminton, tennis, and table tennis, also saw a surge of nearly 150 per cent last fiscal year, signaling a growing focus on outdoor sporting activities.
Amazon's presence in the state is substantial, with 51 service partners, 52 delivery stations, and around 16,000 sellers. The company plans to continue its collaboration with local stores and MSMEs. Additionally, Amazon has integrated nine EV brands across more than ten cities in Odisha, with Bhubaneswar recording the sale of at least one electric scooter every two days in July. The capital city also saw a 30 per cent growth in larger furniture categories, particularly premium items like sofa sets, mattresses, and wardrobes, which experienced a 40 per cent increase in sales.
