India has emerged as the only country in the Asia-Pacific region to consistently deliver double-digit growth in the FMCG and tech durable sectors through modern trade channels, according to a NielsenIQ report. This surge is attributed to premiumisation and festive period sales.
The report highlights India's dominant position in modern trade sales, particularly in the premium-plus pricing segment, which accounts for nearly 40% of FMCG and 30% of tech durables sales. Both sectors are experiencing significant growth despite inflationary pressures.
Modern trade channels, which include supermarkets, hypermarkets, department stores, and mini-markets, have shown resilience. Interestingly, consumers are increasingly opting for premium-plus products and smaller pack sizes, outpacing traditional large-pack sizes and signaling evolving consumer preferences.
