In a tragic incident early Tuesday, two people were killed and 20 injured when at least 18 coaches of the Howrah-Mumbai Mail derailed in Jharkhand's Seraikela-Kharsawan district, according to officials.

The derailment occurred at 3.45 AM near Barabamboo, roughly 80 km from Jamshedpur, within the Chakradharpur Division of the South Eastern Railway (SER). SER spokesperson Om Prakash Charan reported the incident and mentioned that a nearby goods train had also derailed. It is still unclear if the two accidents happened concurrently.

Rescue operations are underway at the accident site, near the border of West Singhbhum and Seraikela-Kharsawan districts. District Commissioner Kuldeep Chaudhary confirmed the fatalities and injuries while SER officials stated that medical aid for the injured was provided promptly. The train, with 22 coaches including 16 passenger coaches, met with the accident after departing Howrah. Several train services have been canceled or diverted in response to the tragedy, and helpline numbers have been set up for affected passengers and their families.
