Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw clarified that train operations and stoppages are subject to network requirements, traffic justification, and operational feasibility while replying to a query in the Lok Sabha about train stoppages in Malappuram, Kerala.

MP M P Abdussamad Samadani from the Indian Union Muslim League raised concerns about the difficulties faced by passengers because 11 pairs of trains do not stop in the district on the Shornur-Mangalore line.

Vaishnaw pointed out that important stations in Malappuram, such as Kuttippuram and Tirur, are served by numerous trains, and that the determination of train stoppages is an ongoing process based on necessity and operational efficiency.
