In a rare public acknowledgment, Pakistani Army Chief General Asim Munir has highlighted the Pakistan Army's involvement in the 1999 Kargil war against India. Addressing the Defence and Martyrs Day event in Rawalpindi, Munir listed Kargil among several major conflicts with India.

General Munir praised the bravery of the Pakistani nation and acknowledged the sacrifices made by soldiers in various wars, including those in 1948, 1965, 1971, and Kargil. He also stressed the essential relationship between the army and the Pakistani public for the country's defense and unity.

Munir's remarks come in contrast to Pakistan's earlier stance, which distanced the country from the Kargil conflict by attributing it to private fighters. Prime Minister Shebaz Sharif and top military officials attended the prominent ceremony, paying tribute to the martyrs and emphasizing unity against threats.
