Union Food Processing Minister Chirag Paswan stresses the importance of substantial budget allocation for setting up food processing units nationwide. He believes this move will create local job opportunities and boost farmers' income. Paswan, in an interaction with PTI, outlined his top three priorities: establishing food processing units, taking Indian brands to global markets, and dispelling misconceptions around processed foods.

Paswan highlighted that proposals for new processing units are coming from all states, especially agro-based ones. He noted his ministry's request to the finance minister and remained optimistic about future budget allocations, despite current limitations.

Paswan emphasized the need to raise awareness about the benefits of processed food and promote the sector, citing the increasing demand from nuclear families and working couples. He also mentioned the potential for foreign direct investment and initiatives to develop processing infrastructure in regions like the Northeast and Bihar.
