Global semiconductor body SEMI and its counterpart IESA have announced a landmark strategic agreement aimed at bolstering the semiconductor industry ecosystem in India, according to a joint statement released on Wednesday.
Per the agreement, the Indian Electronics and Semiconductor Association (IESA) will now become part of SEMI, the organizer behind renowned Semicon events including Semicon India.
'This partnership will help SEMI establish a robust presence in this vital emerging market and enable both organizations to devise tangible strategies that leverage our combined strengths to enhance supply chain resilience,' commented Ajit Manocha, President and CEO of SEMI.
The agreement was signed during the Semicon India 2024 event, marking a significant milestone for both entities. It will also pave the way for joint advocacy efforts, with IESA and SEMI collaborating closely with both central and state governments to drive incentives for product development and manufacturing through initiatives such as the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) and Design Linked Incentive (DLI) models.
'This milestone is a major win for India, SEMI, and IESA. It positions India to become a global semiconductor powerhouse, accelerates economic growth, and fosters innovation,' said IESA President Ashok Chandak.
