Brazil Blocks Elon Musk's X: A Tech Clash Escalates
Brazil blocked Elon Musk's social media platform X, previously Twitter, after the company missed a legal deadline imposed by Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes. This escalates the ongoing conflict between Musk and Brazilian authorities over free speech, misinformation, and judicial compliance.
Brazil began blocking Elon Musk's social media platform X early Saturday, making it largely inaccessible via the web and mobile app after the company refused to comply with a judicial order.
The suspension was triggered after X missed a deadline set by Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes to appoint a legal representative in Brazil. This marks an escalation in the ongoing conflict between Musk and Brazilian authorities over issues related to free speech and misinformation.
Brazil's telecommunications regulator, Anatel, instructed internet service providers to cut off access to X, a directive that was largely implemented by Saturday midnight local time. Justice de Moraes justified the suspension by citing Musk's disregard for Brazilian judicial authority and warned of a daily fine for VPN usage to access the platform.
