In a significant revelation, Ola Founder Bhavish Aggarwal pointed out the unique irony of India's pivotal role in the design of global chips, even as the country lacks its own. He announced a bold plan to develop India's first AI chip, describing it as a 'moonshot,' while asserting the company's capability to deliver.

During an interaction with PTI editors, Aggarwal elaborated on the vision behind this ambitious project. Although building a chip from scratch is inherently risky, he expressed confidence that Ola Group and its AI venture, Krutrim, can achieve this milestone. The company plans to collaborate with global foundries rather than establishing its own fab.

Aggarwal, an advocate of India's digital sovereignty, revealed Krutrim's roadmap for enhancing AI capabilities, including the development of foundational models, cloud, and silicon. The project aims to design India's first AI chip by 2026, with subsequent advancements planned by 2028.
