In a recent legal development, the social media platform X, owned by Elon Musk, has agreed to halt the use of personal data collected from European Union users for AI training purposes. The decision was revealed during a hearing at an Irish court on Thursday.

Ireland's Data Protection Commission had sought an order to suspend or limit X's data processing activities linked to AI development. The platform, known previously as Twitter, had begun processing this data on May 7 but only provided users the option to opt out from July 16—a move criticized by Judge Leonie Reynolds.

X's legal team stated that the data accumulated between May 7 and August 1 would not be utilized until the court resolves the ongoing proceedings. The court will receive opposition papers from X's lawyers by September 4. This legal tussle follows similar actions involving other tech giants like Meta and Google, who also faced EU regulatory scrutiny over their AI initiatives.
